Change for hope

Safer Communities, Stronger Communities

Public safety is one of the most important responsibilities of government. Families should be able to raise their children, operate their businesses, attend church, and enjoy their neighborhoods without living in fear of crime. Across Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, we have communities filled with hardworking people who want a better future, but rising crime continues to stand in the way of growth and opportunity. If we are serious about improving our communities, then public safety must be a priority.

Our district includes several cities that face some of the highest crime rates in Alabama, with some even ranking among the most dangerous communities in the nation. These statistics are more than numbers on a page—they represent real people, real families, and real neighborhoods. Crime affects property values, discourages new businesses from investing, and makes it more difficult for existing businesses to grow and create jobs. When crime increases, economic opportunity often declines alongside it.

Addressing this challenge requires a commitment to providing communities with the resources they need. This includes supporting law enforcement agencies, ensuring officers have access to proper training and equipment, and strengthening partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Public safety efforts are most effective when they are supported by local leaders, residents, businesses, and organizations all working toward the same goal.

At the same time, reducing crime is about more than enforcement alone. Communities benefit when young people have positive opportunities, when businesses are willing to invest, and when residents have access to resources that help strengthen neighborhoods. A comprehensive approach that combines public safety with community development can help create lasting improvements that benefit everyone.

The future of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District depends on creating communities where families feel safe, businesses can thrive, and economic growth can flourish. By making public safety a priority and ensuring communities have the support and resources they need, we can help build stronger neighborhoods and create an environment where opportunity is available to all. When our communities are safer, they are also better positioned to attract investment, create jobs, and move forward together.
