David Wayne Perry – Candidate Biography
David Wayne Perry was born on January 7, 1963, in Selma to Ananias and Vera-Mae Perry. Raised in a large family, David is one of eleven siblings and also shares a close bond with three adoptive brothers. From an early age, he learned the values of faith, hard work, perseverance, and service to others.
David graduated from Southside High School in 1981, where he distinguished himself as a standout athlete. His achievements on the football field earned him a scholarship to attend Livingston University. While pursuing his education, he was recruited by the United States Army and enlisted in 1982. David served honorably as a Nuclear Missile Technician until 1984, gaining valuable leadership, technical expertise, and discipline that would shape his future career.
Following his military service, David answered a call to ministry and became an ordained minister. He faithfully served as a pastor for 27 years, dedicating his life to spiritual leadership, community development, and helping individuals and families overcome challenges. He retired from pastoral ministry on March 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and service.
Since 1999, David has served as Executive Director of Joshua Generation Ministries, an organization committed to elevating inner-city and at-risk youth through mentorship, education, leadership development, and community support. During his 18 years of pastoral leadership in Selma, he helped more than 150 at-risk young people earn college degrees and assisted more than 100 others in obtaining vocational and trade certifications. His commitment to empowering the next generation has transformed lives and strengthened communities throughout the region.
Today, David Wayne Perry is seeking to serve as the District 7 representative. His campaign is driven by a passion for positive change, economic development, and public safety. Grounded in conservative principles and Christian values, David is committed to promoting policies that encourage job creation, support local businesses, strengthen families, and make neighborhoods safer. He believes strong leadership, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement are essential to building a prosperous future for District 7.
